Eurosighthound Winner 2009 & Sighthound Club show Slovakia 2009

show place aroud Manor House....

The weekend of Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August was dedicated to our passion, the Borzoi, with one of the year’s most interesting events taking place in Mojmirovce, a tiny village in Slovakia where time seemed to have stood still. Davor with his Fenomenalnj Fars Wolkowo, Sonja and myself left Slovenia on Friday at noon to enjoy one of the most entertaining and pleasant weekends ever. I actually cannot recollect having so much fun whether before, during or after a show. Thank you Sonja, Davor and all the friends we met on location!

We arrived in Mojmirovce on Friday evening to find out that the castle hosting the event was an absolutely charming neo-classic manor house surrounded by a wonderful park that offered a shadowy and pleasant environment for the dogs. And on top of all this, we had the privilege of occupying the Royal Suite at the Manor House – what else can you wish… The Manor-House featured a botanical garden that unfortunately no longer exist but adjacent park includes many exotic trees, bushes and plants. For decades, it was one of the most beautiful parks in Upper Hungary-Slovakia. However the pride of Manor House Mojimirovce was a large horse-breeding establishment, the home of many noble horses from Arabia,Spain and Italy. Many race horses earned great success as also Cart-pulling horses proved themselves to be very reliable on long and strenuous journeys.

On Saturday we soon met many friends, among which Vida and Andreja from Slovenia, and many others. With almoust 80 entries, the borzoi was the most represented breed, and would have been a memorable show if all entered dogs had been there. Unfortunately quite a few were absent, presumably because of poor coat conditions due to the exceptionally hot summer. On all accounts, 70 dogs is still a very respectable amount!

The Saturday title of BOB EuroSighthound Winner 2009 went to Zarathustra Njinski Ballet and BOS to Ninochka’s Zoya by H.R.I.B.,judged by Russian specialist Mrs Kosareva Congratulations Andreja for this fantastic result! The Slovene selection was also able to rejoice for a EXC2 and ResCAC obtained by Fenomenalnij Fars Wolkowo in the Open class, therefore happy as we were, nothing could prevent up from having a nice dinner at the manor house with lovely company and abundant champagne…

The Sunday saw Mrs. Bitte Ahrens from Sweden (now a resident of Italy) put up “our” lovely Fenomenalnij Fars Wolkowo with EXC 1 CAC in the open class and EXC 3RD place for Ninochka’s Zoya by H.R.I.B in intermedia class. BOB and Club Winner went to Faworyta Francuza Polot and BOS Zarathustra Njinski Ballet Thank you Davor for letting me help you handle your lovely dog! And what’s more, we enjoyed showing under Mrs Ahrens who is very respectful of both dog and exhibitor, and a true sighthound lover.

We got back home in the middle of the night, tired but very, very happy for having seen such an impressive number of borzois in such an enchanting environment. What would life be without our ‘Zois’…

Saeta Equina Horse Fair and Baroque performance in Ljubljana

On Saturday 20th June, we were so lucky as to be part of the Baroque Night, a special programme within the Saeta Equina, the international Horse Fair held at the fair ground in Ljubljana. The Baroque Night was the successful attempt at recreating the magic atmosphere of the Mitteleuropa, a commonwealth of states, cultures and languages in which every individual country and people contributed to the best of their abilities to a unique concept. Some sort of European Union ante-litteram, where Slovenia found a prominent place thanks to the ability and knowledge of its famous horse breeders. And especially, thanks to the beauty of a truly unique horse breed, the Lipizzan, that was for centuries the sole and exclusive pride of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. The Baroque Night at the Saeta Equina was thus the celebration of this glorious part of Slovene history. It was therefore with great pleasure that we gathered up with our best hounds – among which obviously my noble Volodja - and elaborate, luscious historic costumes to bring back the colours, the fashion, the manners and modes of one of the most pleasant times in Slovene history.
And special thanks to our 'offical' photographer Tomislav Klemenčič who send this pics - excellent photographs Tomislav:-)!!!

Volodja - preparing for the performance:-)
